remarkably ornate c. 1927 neo classical style reinforced cast plaster circular ceiling medallion salvaged from the lawndale theater located on the west side of chicago. the theater was designed and built in 1927 by the firm of r. levine & co. the flush mount ceiling medallion was located beneath the upper balcony within the 2000 seat auditorium. the centrally located rosette features deep relief acanthus leaves surrounding an opening where an electric fixture was mounted. the elegantly designed, interconnected foliated scroll work is arranged in a visually striking radial pattern. the plaster ornament was executed by the decorators supply co., chicago, il. measures approximately 62 inches in diameter. metallic gold enameled finish largely intact.
