13 Aug a huge load of c. 1918 towsley factory furniture carts arrived earlier this week
over the past few days urban remains has been consumed in removing a large load of mobile industrial carts or “floor trucks” from the burhop paper company factory complex, located west of downtown chicago. the incredibly robust, shopworn carts were designed and fabricated by the j.t. towsley mfg. co., cincinnati, oh. nearly a hundred matching carts were originally purchased by the burhop company in 1918 for facilitating the transfer of large loads of shipping supplies from warehouse to dock in a timely fashion. the iron and wood trucks were used extensively throughout the years at multiple locations required to handle the needs of increased operational output and subsequent expansion into larger facilities. the trucks were salvaged from the burhops’s third (and current) location, where they have been conducting business since 1927.
