10 Dec another afternoon at the chicago athletic club association building.
more and more layers are peeled back – week after week – and i’m there to document it with my cameras. the frequency of extensive “remuddlings” that have occurred over the decades in this building are rather astonishing, yet equally depressing in some ways (at the very least, when considering the historic integrity). so much has been lost (or thrown out) over the years – falling victim to ever-changing design trends and building code “upgrades.” …but of course, that is the common path a building follows time and again. reckless or not, it’s going to happen. and at the very least, there are people like myself, who are willing to carefully document what has survived, with a camera (and sometimes wrecking bar). the journey is far from over. i will roam the interior of the athletic club until it transitions into a boutique hotel.
