21 Oct documentation of howells and hood’s tribune tower restoration as of october 2019
latest photographic images from ongoing restoration of howells and hood’s tribune tower (1925) and partial demolition of jarvis hunt’s printing plant (1929). the majority of the images focus on capturing tradesmen restoring the tower’s bedford limestone from their swing stages hanging off the facade like spiders in a web.
at the same time, i’m tracking progress of the partial demolition of hunt’s 1929 printing plant with detailed shots of the exposed steel skeletal framing (e.g., riveted joint steel columns and beams) originally supplied by the american bridge company in gary, indiana. through repeated visits, i’ve noticed the gradual erasure and/or reconstruction of the building that once housed the gargantuan printing presses. little by little its skeletal remains appear to be destroyed and discarded.
