latest photographic images of 1893 world’s fair terra cotta pabst pavilion “deconstruction”

the historically important 1893 world’s fair or columbian exposition pabst beer pavilion (designed by architect otto strack, who also designed the extant pabst theater) has been shrouded in a steel web covered with mesh (for several weeks now) as deconstruction and/or removal of it’s buff-colored terra cotta ornament shifts into high gear.

will it be rebuilt using a hybrid of original and reproduced terra cotta ornament (the latter likely supplied by boston valley terra cotta company, buffalo, ny.) on the existing site? only time will tell.

the following photographs provide an exhaustive chronological visual account of berglund’s efforts as they take apart the pavilion, from top to bottom, with the majority of it being labeled and stowed away in the bowels of th pabst mansion.
