detailed photographic survey of solon spencer beman’s first methodist church of batavia, located at 8 north batavia avenue, batavia, il. the richardsonian romanesque style church’s exterior is comprised of multi-coloed rough-faced stones or boulders, harvested from local building contractor i.s. stephens’s mill creek farm in batavia.

beman also integrated uniformerly colored bedford limestone to provide contrast and accentuate architectural elemennts including columns and capitals, keysones, arches and finials.

the interior contains features a darkly stained oak wood barrel-vaulted ceiling and a multitude of richly colored stained glass window.
