small selection of depression-era (mostly) photographic images (scanned from original glass negatives) of chicago taken by photographer fred g. korth (1902-1983).

korth emigrated to chicago from germany in 1926 where he learned photography. shortly thereafter, he became a member of the dearborn camera club and exhibited his work in the united stated and abroad.
he established a chicago studio in 1932 where he worked until his retirement in 1965. during that time his images were featured in several american magazines including national geographic, newsweek, fortune, look, and popular mechanics.
he also documented the 1933 chicago world’s fair and worked for several american corporations as an industrial and advertising photographer.

some of the images i selected also appeard in his self-published photographic book entitled, “the chicago book – photographs by korth.” in 1949.
