iphone images of a post-fire chicccago masonry residential structure undergoing demolition located at 1923 north cleveland avenue, chicago, il. the multi-story building facade is comprised of “parge and pencil” brick (likely from a shortage of face brick after the chicago fire of 1871) punctuated with unornamented lemont limestone window hoods with centrally located keystones. the pressed, stamped, and folded dentiled sheet metal cornice is likely original and was largely intact prior to demolition. the beveled glass transom address window was likely made and installed within the past ten years. the dearborn or union foundry works ornamental cast iron newel posts, brackets, and railings, were added in the 1880s.
