the building was extensively remodeled (both interior and exterior) in 1889 and renamed the chicago real estate board building.

the building is comprised largely of frear stone with applied red sand paint faux finish (similar to john m. van osdel’s 5-story mccarthy building built around the same time).
the bottom two floors were remodeled around 1910 with white glazed terra cotta.
the top two stories – added in 1889 – are comprised of pressed sheet metal.
