21 Nov 2016 eric j. nordstrom photographic images of building parts in burnham and root’s rookery building “vault”

raw and unedited 2016 images of “the vault” in the basement of burnham and root’s rookery building, located at 209 south lasalle street, chicago, il.

i can’t recall if this was a public exhibit or perhaps a feature of open house chicago. the vault contained bits and pieces of the rookery building from the time it was completed in 1888 to subsequent alterations (mostly interior) made by frank lloyd wright in 1905-07 and william e. drummond in 1931.

i was told recently that the room or rooms are now empty, so not sure where this rather intriguing and equally informative collection of historic material now resides.

note: after closely reviewing the images, the labels assigned to the artifacts in some cases are incorrect (e.g., the art deco style bronze sconces were designed by drummond, not wright).
