recent photographic survey of helmet jahn’s 40th floor conference room, located on the top floor of giaver and dinkelberg’s 40-story jewelers building (1927), located at 35 east wacker drive, chicago, il.

a future post will feature images and video of the fully functional original “birdcage” elevator cab.

the former space was formerly known as the statosphere restaurant and lounge (1937) that occupied the top four floors of the building’s dome, with a restaurant on the 38th and 39th floors and a cocktail lounge on the 40th.

after the club closed, the dome was converted into a conference room for the architectural firm of helmut jahn. the 40th floor was used to showcase jahn’s projects up until his death in 2021.
