the j. j. walser jr. house is a prairie style home at 42 north central avenue in the austin neighborhood of chicago, illinois. designed by frank lloyd wright and built in 1903 for developer joseph jacob walser jr., the house cost $4,000 (about $139,985 today). after the walsers left in 1910, the property changed hands multiple times, with alterations such as enclosing the original porches. anne and hurley teague owned it from 1970 until anne’s death in 2019, after which it fell into foreclosure.









the two-story, single-family residence features a cruciform plan, stucco facade, casement windows, hip roof, and a concealed entrance. the first floor includes a reception room, open living–dining area, and kitchen; upstairs are five bedrooms, with service rooms in the basement and a rear garage. the house was featured in a 1905 house beautiful article and wright’s wasmuth portfolio. it is recognized as a chicago landmark and is listed on the national register of historic places.
