the kenna apartments, officially named the john f. kenna apartments, are a historic landmark located at 2214 e. 69th street in chicago’s south shore neighborhood. known for their distinctive prairie school architecture, the building was designed by barry byrne—a protégé of frank lloyd wright—and features sculptures by alfonso iannelli. its notable attributes include striking brickwork and angular bay windows, and it has served as a residential property since its construction in 1916.

this classic chicago three-flat was the result of collaboration between architect barry byrne and sculptor alfonso iannelli. the design showcases intricate brick patterns alongside sculpted window frames and entrance details. with its understated yet masterful style, the building stands out among the urban structures of early south shore. byrne, who began his career with frank lloyd wright, went on to design other prominent buildings such as immaculata high school and st. thomas the apostle church. the apartments were originally commissioned for john f. kenna, a bookkeeper.
