chicago workers cottage to corrugated metal sensation: 2026 photographic survey of bruce goff’s myron bachman house (1948)

the bachman house is located at 1244 w. carmen ave., chicago, illinois. originally built in 1889, it was remodeled by bruce goff between 1947 and 1948 into a home and studio for myron bachman.

notable for its updated windows and brick with corrugated aluminum exterior, the house is recognized locally and nationally as a unique architectural work.

goff, who worked in both oklahoma and chicago, also designed the turzak house. bachman house became a chicago landmark on december 9, 1992.
