chicago architectural foundation buys h.h. richardson’s south side chicago glessner house in 1965

richard nickel contact print images (taken in 1965-66) of h.h. richardson’s john j. glessner house (1887), located at 1800 south prairie avenue, chicago, il.

at the time, the house was occupied by the lithographic technical foundation. thankfully they kept the floorplan largely intact during their occupancy.

after relocating to pittsburgh in 1965, they sold it to a group of architects and preservationists a year later for 35,000. the group formed the chicago architecture foundation to save and restore the house.

original 1965 double-sided john j. glessner house (1887) sale flyer, which at the time, was owned and occupied by the graphic arts technical foundation.

verso contains the floor plans. the image of the house was taken by harold allen. i believe the asking price was 60,000 dollars.
