photo-documenting adler and sullivan’s s.a. maxwell (jewelers’) building facade revisited

yesterday afternoon marked the final visit to methodically photo-document the facade of adler and sullivan’s s.a. maxwell loft building facade. with ample time and unabridged use of the swing stage, i managed to record any and all of sullivan’s ornament, executed in both ohio sandstone and enameled cast iron. the majority of the images in the gallery below, revolve around sullivan’s sandstone ornament that was sourced from berlin, ohio and executed by sculptor james legge, who worked extensively on the firm’s auditorium building completed in 1889.

collectively, i’ve taken well over 10,000 images of the building’s facade over the course of three visits under different lighting conditions. i can safely say i’ve amassed the most comprehensive visual record of the building’s exterior features on macro, close-up and micro scale. when time permits i hope to make any and all images available for study.
