original photographic images of the post-fire william hoyt building (1872), located at southwest corner of north michigan and east wacker drive.

note the massive 15 x 6 marble fort dearborn memorial plaque or tablet built into the wall of the building (1881), which featured an engraved sketch of the fort dearborn blockhouse erected on the site in 1816, after the massacre of 1812.

the 5-story cleveland sandstone and cast iron building was demolished in 1921 to make way for alfred s. alschuler’s london guarantee and accident building (1923).
