concern grows over fate of george c. nimmons’s 1905 prairie style sears adminstration building

nimmons and fellows’s prairie style sears administration building (1905, 1914) remains mostly empty and somewhat neglected, as more and more boards are replacing windows. the building is currently for sale, but hasn’t found a buyer – yet. the exterior cream-colored sullivanesque style terra cotta ornament was designed by george c. nimmons and remains mostly intact despite being painted over. another building to keep a close eye on.

meanwhile, a very unusual and distinctvie 19th century chicago greystone located nearby (i’ve been documenting this house and it’s equually unique neighbors – likely built by the same developer or builder) survived a first floor fire, but thankfully will be rehabilitated by its new owner.
