photo-documenting 19th and early 20th century south side chicago exterior architecture

latest images from my ever-growing photographic survey of extant late 19th and early 20th century chicago residential and commercial structures located across chicago. the work focuses on terra cotta ornament adorning the armour institute of technology (1893, patten and fisher, architects), burnham and root’s st. gabriel’s church (1887) and boyington and wheeler’s kenwood united church of christ (1887-1888) and several examples of carved residential and commercial bedford limestone ornament.

taken as a whole, the seemingly random selection of images reflect a multitude of concurrent research projects i’m working on for use in exhibits, material and method research and bolstering narratives of objects that otherwise are devoid of context.
