ann halsted row houses, at 1826–1834 n. lincoln park west in chicago, are five townhouses designed by adler & sullivan between 1884 and 1886. commissioned by ann pinegar halsted as rental properties after her husband’s death, they represent a rare multi-unit residential project from the firm’s early years.

key features and architecture:

design style: queen anne style with red brick cladding and decorative terra cotta trim.

construction: phase i (1884–1885)—first three units built; phase ii (1885–1886)—final two units added after demolishing the family home.

significance: the only row houses designed by adler & sullivan, showcasing louis sullivan’s early ornamental style.

preservation: contributing buildings to the old town triangle historic district; listed on the national register of historic places in 1984.
