continued documentation of howells and hood’s chicago tribune tower exterior restoration

the following collection of images (posted in chronological order) of howells and hood’s gothic style chicago tribune tower are from multiple visits over the past two months (fall, 2018). the tribune tower is one of many projects i’ve carved out time to revisit time and again to thoroughly document from beginning to end.

whether it’s restoration, discovery, or demolition, finding time to document chicago’s buildings has proven to be an exhaustive effort, espeically at a time where more and more structures are being eradicated at an alarming rate. however, i find it well worth it and take solace in the fact that i can create extensive visual records of the ever-changing cityscape, which will be readily available to any and all long after changes – for better or for worse – have altered the historic fabric of our city.

while my access to tribune tower is heavily restricted (e.g., i’m convinced the transformation of the interior will never be seen or recorded), i can, at the very least, capture any and all changes made to the exterior from street level to the top of the tower in great detail, thanks in part to my arsenal of lenses.
